For a Unique Mother's Day

It's Certainly Been A Year Like No Other

The first lockdown in the UK was almost exactly a year ago, and many of us haven't seen our mums in all that time.  Others of us may have lost our mothers - either very recently, or perhaps longer ago.
In many ways, this year it seems more important than ever to reach out - to come together with the mum you've been apart from for so long, to recognise someone who's been special to you, or even to treat yourself - something nice for the start of a better year.  Whoever you're treating this year, we've got some unique spins on traditional gifts for you - because it's not a year for run-of-the mill gifts, is it?

#1  Afternoon Tea

We know afternoon tea is a favourite way to celebrate with your mum.  Restrictions may be lifted by the time Mothering Sunday comes....and maybe you can do it in person.  If not, we love the Afternoon Tea delivery options.  Major supermarkets such as Waitrose and M&S can deliver all around the country, of course - but we think this year we need something a bit more interesting.  We LOVE the selection of goodies at Cutter & Squidge, including wheat and gluten free options. (cutterandsquidge.com) .   And don't forget your local restaurants and bakeries.  Local to our shop in Maidenhead, we have deliveries by Strawberry Grove, and for something more unusual, Argentinian alfajores and other sweet treats from Como en Casa.  Whatever you do, why not include one of these beautiful large teacups from Liza Lambert, giving your mum  something to remember a lovely day with - every time she has a cup of tea.

#2  A Bouquet of Flowers

It's easy to find florists who will deliver anywhere in the world through Interflora or other similar organisations, or place an order with your favourite local florist (Here in Maidenhead, we love Nash & Sons Florist,  Pink and Perfect Florist, and Devine Flowers in Cookham) for really special bouquets.  For something longer lasting, though - look at this beautiful fused glass suncatcher from Hen on the Shore.   Spring flowers that will last forever, and remind her how special you think she is,

#3 A Day at a Spa

You can buy vouchers for treatments and special days from your local spa.  Nirvana Spa in Wokingham has vouchers to use when they're open again, as well as Spa at Home kits.  Or, chose your own Spa essentials, like (from top right) this Organic Pamper Gift Box from That Girl in Green (including aloe vera soap, silky hand cream, unscented body butter, essential oil sleep spray, and vegan lip balm), a Liberty print lavender eye pillow from Indigo & Rose, Colour Changing Bath Bomb from Lottie Makes at Home, or these fabulous bath bombs from Caroline's Creations (5 different scents including Orange Blossom, Rose Geranium, Lavender & Patchouli, Bluebell, Rose, and Lavender, and Geranium and Ylang-Ylang),

#4 Letterbox Gifts

The wonderful thing about the gifts in the Craft Coop Online shop is that all of them can be posted.  Some of the gifts can be posted through a letterbox, which means you can deliver them straight to the person...maybe even secretly!  We totally LOVE all of these gifts.  From left:  Silk scarf and coordinating earrings from Originals by Yolande Dennis, Portable hug from Diane Denham Designs, and Mother's Day gift box ( including fabric flower, Worlds greatest Mum badge, banner, bookmark, and more!) from Felt so Good Gifts

#5 A Special Card and a Good Book

Picture
OK, hands up, this is what's on my list, I admit it.  But really, isn't a nice card what we all want? (especially one as cute as the hand-cut one from Katie Sarah).  Pair that with a good book from a bricks & mortar bookshop.  We love The Little Bookshop in Cookham, and Marlow Bookshop in Marlow....and any Waterstones at all - but the ones in High Wycombe, Windsor, and Camberley, just for starters....  Bliss!

Finally.....of course, we know that different people appreciate different sorts of gifts - maybe jewellery is something your mum loves?  Or maybe she'd appreciate something for her pet.  The Craft Coop online shop is full of beautiful gifts - all locally handcrafted, and perfect for people who are really one of a kind.....in this truly unique year. www.craftcoopshop.co.uk
